November 2002Emmanuel House: This is our first item of news this month because it is the most important. Sister Brenda fell on Thanksgiving morning and broke her arm. After having x-rays the doctors told her she would need an operation. She decided to have the operation here in Romania, so I made an appointment with the head orthopedic surgeon here in Brasov. He said it was not a difficult surgery, so she had it done. She came home the next day from the hospital and was doing well. However, as she was leaving to go to the doctor for a follow up visit, she fell again. This time the x-rays showed that she had broken the same arm only a little lower down. She needed another more complicated operation requiring longer hospitalization. I have no doubt that the surgeon could have done the operation without complications, but I felt that the longer hospital stay was not acceptable. If you have been in a Romanian hospital you know why I say this. Also, the doctor said that she needed to have her bone density checked. Brenda and I arrived Saturday, December 7 in the United States and she went to the doctor in Lufkin, Texas. Her surgery was scheduled for the following week. I flew back to Romania on Thursday, December 12. Brenda needs your prayers and support. She is an extraordinary lady. Her courage and determination to do the job that God has called her to do in Romania has inspired me. She didn’t want to come back to Lufkin because she said she had “too much to do”. She has been such a blessing to the people here and to us. I pray that God will heal her and bring her back to us. The home will be receiving a young lady this week with a 1-month-old baby. Sister Brenda went to her home to meet with her. She lives with her mother. The baby got sick right after she brought it home, and had to go to the hospital. The doctor doesn’t want to release it to go back home because there is no heat, and she said the baby will not make it through the winter in those conditions. Keep Sister Brenda in your prayers, and also pray for Mariana as she stays and works with the ladies and their children. Brenda shared with us that one of the ladies from the home professed Christ as Savior this past month. She asked to talk with the pastor, and has asked about baptism. Praise the Lord for this work. The home is not only saving physical lives but also souls, and making a difference for eternity. |

Ghimbav: Our churches here in Romania are moving forward. The youth room in Ghimbav should be ready before Christmas. They are very excited about this. I was able to visit the church two Sundays ago and as always I was very impressed with attendance. They have grown in number as well as spiritually and I praise the Lord for the influence of the church in that community. We also have a new teacher at the school. She is over the younger class and is doing really well. Sister Lenuta is in her second year of college, so she has two more years to go before she gets her teaching certificate. The school continues to be a wonderful way to reach children and parents for Christ. |

Sister
Brenda and Mariana at Dumbravita Missionary Baptist Church |
Dumbravita:
Dumbravita had a
loss this last month. Nicoleta left to go to Germany to work as a Nanny for a
Christian family. She wants to help her family financially and has not been
able to find a job here in Romania. Pray for her as she will be in a far away
country away from family and friends. Otherwise, the church is doing very
well. Persani: Persani is struggling. Everyone that I have talked with that has worked with gypsies says that they cannot be faithful to anything, not even to God or church. I have to hold on to hope that anyone can change, and that all things are possible through Christ who strengthens us. |
